Doodle for Google 2013 is Open: My Best Day Ever....

    "Doodle for Google" is back for 2013 and I will be printing off and posting information in the middle school for this event. We have had students enter the past two years and their drawings have impressed me. Even though they did not win or place at the state or national level, I was proud of them and their drawings were amazing. Hopefully, many students will enter again this year and maybe this is the year someone from our district finally wins or places. This year's theme is....

"My Best Day Ever...."

Doodle for Google Contest Getting Science Center Publicity!

For the last week or so, I have been talking to students about seeing if they want to enter the Doodle for Google contest and now today I just received an email saying that the Science Center is working with kids to help them enter and learn more about it. We had 2 great entries last year, but they did not win. Google has added more prizes and winners this year, so maybe we will have a winner this year from our school. Science Center is hosting a "Doodle Event" for kids on Feb. 25th from 12-4 p.m. Kids can come to learn more, hear from local artists, and practice their ideas. Cool!! Click here for calendar of event

Your child doesn't have to be great at art or be an "artist-in-training", just a willingness to try and to think of the possibility. Students can see me for details.

Stars for Tomorrow Scholarship for 8th Graders!

Parents and students, heads up for a scholarship/award possibility: Stars for Tomorrow Applications are available for Carlisle 8th graders only and are due by May 6th. The Carlisle Alumni Association is sponsoring this opportunity and is awarding a $100 Savings Bond for the winning student(s). So, what do students have to do?? Not much really. Here is all they have to do:

1. Fill out name, address, etc. on application.

2. Type six short paragraphs on how he/she shows each of the six character traits that make up the six Pillars of Character Counts (respect, trustworthy, etc.)

3. Hand 2 reference forms to 2 adults they are not related to. These adults will rate the student in the 6 character areas and fold this form up and hand it back to the student.

4. Mail all of these materials to the address on the application and DONE!

Calling All Artists!! And Even Those Who Aren't Artists!

If you are an artist, a wanna-be artist, or not at artist at all: Listen Up! Google is holding it's annual "Doodle 4 Google" contest again this year. Ever wonder who draws the artwork you sometimes see when you go to Google on certain days? Well, sometimes the art is done by famous artists, and sometimes it is students just like you. And on May 20th of this year, the artwork really could be yours. Do I even have to tell you about the great prizes that go along with your artwork being chosen? I shouldn't have to, but let's just say it is in the thousands! And what if you don't win first place? No problem, they have hundreds of state winners. So, take a quick moment over the next month or so and doodle what you want to be when you grow up and submit your drawing and see if you win. Students!! You Can Write About Something You Love (Technology) and Win Money!!

Students, I know you love technology and do not always love to write! I have the perfect thing for you: A 100-word or less essay contest about why technology is so great. One winner in each grade will get $500 and the runner-up will get $100. Now, I am sure many students across the country are entering, but what if, just what if, one of our students won the $500 award the the title of "Best Essay". Give it a shot...you never know!
